Pictures from the first three days of English Club

This is the building on the campus of the University of Kiev where we are teaching our classes. It is about a 15 minute walk from our hotel. The weather has been great and everyone enjoys the walks to and from class.

These are some of the students in our English Club. We are teaching three levels of English ability, beginner, intermediate and advanced. The are from all different "faculties" or majors. Our class size averages about 25 students. Each class has one or two American volunteers, a Ukranian Cru staff or volunteer who serves as class administrator (announcements, setting up equipment and discussion group leader if needed) and one Cru student volunteer.

We spend three hours with the students. The first hour we do a conversation based lesson on a relevant topic. We have talked about Success/Failure, Leadership and Money. The second hour we do a discussion based discovery Bible lesson and the third hour we start with presentations from the students about their lives and interests and then finish with some fun games. It is a terrific format. One student said, "This is the most I have ever practiced my English speaking." And another students said, "Thank your for teaching class. It has been a great experience."

We were led on an excursion into the city by two Cru staff where we visited an open indoor market. Upstairs were the clothing, shoes, and other soft goods. Downstairs held the fruit, meat, fish, cheese and other foods. There were also a number of small food stalls. Everything you might need in one location. We all enjoyed doing some shopping and seeing more of the beautiful city of Kiev. We took the trolley and subway to reach this area of the city.

We eat our main meal at lunch. We have been eating traditional Ukranian food at cafeteria type restaurants. We don't always know what we are ordering and are sometimes surprised at the food combinations.
